Vampiric Stuff

What are some of everyone's fave vamp movies?

A personal favorite is "Let the Right One In". This is a true classic. While containing some horror aspects, I didn't think of it as a horror movie. The film focuses so deeply on the characters and their interactions, truly making each seem real and human. What horrific features there are just tie deeper into the character developments as opposed to being freaky...

Unlike "Thirty Days of Night". I was recently browsing channels on TV and came in on like, the middle of this movie. DUDE! Freaked me out...I'm not sure what they do right in this movie, but they do it! Then, I told my bf we were gonna rent it, so we did...

Like I said, I dunno exactly what they do right, but this movie had my heart racing. Maybe its the simple but eerie music. Maybe its the truly ruthless way the vampires demolish their prey. Maybe its the way they use their intelligence to get the best of the humans, toying with the prey they consider so inferior. Maybe its that cool language they use when speaking such short but deep lines like:

"The heads must be separated from their bodies. Do not turn them. "
"When man meets a force he can't destroy, he destroys himself. What a plague you are. "
"There is no escape. No hope. Only hunger and pain. "

I think it's difficult to pull off villains that are totally evil and effective. But somehow, it's more than just their bloodthirstiness. These vamps have a truly chilling quality stemming from the fact that they really don't care at all. They live to feed and to dominate--at all costs.

But the ending was truly touching. Non-cliche for horror...but I won't spoil that.

But enough vampiric ramblings. Please, do share your own favorites.

Let the Right One In is definitely a favorite of mine. Of course, it is a requirement that the viewer not mind reading subtitles (or listening to English dubs, which are not recommended), but an American version is currently in the works. It will be quite different from the Swedish version, but I hope it at least will be a good movie in its own right. If not, it will only serve to distract Western viewers from director Tomas Alfredson's critically acclaimed masterpiece. If you even think you liked Twilight, then go see this movie now!
